After watching the trailer for the Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino’s new film, my thoughts immediately went to ‘that’s going to be good, no doubt.’ But really, what would compel me, or anyone, to say that after seeing just 2 minutes of a 2 hour movie?
It’s not because of the movie itself, but because of who directed it: Tarantino. This is because he hasn’t made a bad one yet. So I began to wonder if he ultimately was my favorite director. After all, there aren’t many with a track record like his. But then I doubted myself, because the handful of my alltime favorite movies weren’t any of his. In fact, there are a couple other directors that have nailed just about every film they’ve put together.
After consideration, I had it narrowed down to three men: Tarantino, Danny Boyle, and Christopher Nolan. If I could only choose one director’s catalogue of films to watch the rest of my life who would I choose?
Let’s take a look at their resumes, with my 5 favorites from each one, in no particular order:
Tarantino
- Reservoir Dogs
- Pulp Fiction
- Inglourious Basterds
- Django Unchained
- Kill Bill (1 & 2)
Boyle
- 127 Hours
- The Beach
- Sunshine
- 28 Days Later
- Slumdog Millionaire
Nolan:
- Inception
- Batman Trilogy
- Memento
- The Prestige
- Interstellar
Tough one.
