Combine Hot Shots Golf and Hot Shots Tennis. Then mix in some Summer Heat Beach Volleyball, some Mario Kart, mini-golf, and top it off with Casino-style table games for the night activities, and you have one fantastic virtual place to play.
This is Hot Shots Country Club. There hasn’t been another game like it. This is the first of its kind. And it’s going to change casual gaming forever.
Create a player, then compete against 30 other AI “members” of this club, all varying in talent. Some are more skilled at golf, others better at volleyball. Each game you play earns you either virtual currency or small skill increases.
Real country clubs typically only have 18 or 27 holes, but this place is large enough to accommodate three separate 18-hole courses surrounding it, in order to keep things fresh, as golf is still the main draw of this game. The courses are varied in terrain and difficulty too. One is sprawled out across the sandy shore, while another is extended up into the mountains behind the club.
The go-kart track is elaborate enough to wind its way through the golf courses themselves, designed to elevate above and across fairways in an enclosed glass tube, causing some natural obstacles on the course.
The tennis matches play out just like Hot Shots Tennis but that’s a good thing because that game was fun, and the mini-golf course plays just like the one included in Hot Shots Golf 3.
The volleyball games are 2v2, and set on a sandy court with a gorgeous view of the country club pool in the background. The best volleyball game engine I’ve seen is in the PS2 game Summer Heat Beach Volleyball, and I’m so glad to see it being utilized here.
The indoor casino games are there to give you a break from the outdoor activities and provide tables for blackjack, roulette, and even poker. Use your earned in-game currency to make your wagers. Lose all your currency at poker? Go play some more tennis to earn it back.
RPG elements are also included, so your created player can become better at each different activity, both directly and indirectly. Playing lots of golf? That can increase your shot, but also your stamina for tennis.
No story mode is present, but it’s not needed here. Just the typical versus mode, where you take on a long list of challengers. Tournaments can also be played in many of the games. The only things to strive for are improving your player, and earning currency to purchase new outfits and clubs at the gift shop. Win enough, and you may start seeing your name and picture displayed throughout the club halls. It will make you feel like a real life member of this fancy place. This game has it all.
Actually, this game doesn’t exist. But it should. Clap Hanz, please make it happen. We don’t need another Hot Shots Golf. What we need now is Hot Shots Country Club!
