The Official League of Game Peak Mode
The next evolution of the Fantasy Mirror League is here. It’s being dubbed Game Peak City, and it’s the official league of the Game Peak Mode scoring format for fantasy basketball.
Our first two seasons were an enjoyable success, especially after making some nice adjustments for the second season. Now, not only is our 10-team league back for more, but we are expanding to house multiple 10-team leagues under one Fantrax roof. These leagues will be separately identified as divisions and each will have their own name: Downtown District, Block Party, and Slam Central. You could also think of these as akin to separate NCAA Conferences.
Each division will act as its own league in essence, meaning they each use a full NBA player pool and each hold their own playoffs to crown their own champion at the end of the season.
The main reason we are going this multi-league route is simple: Mid-season Cup Tournament play is being introduced! Like the Champions League and Europa League in European soccer, teams will compete during the regular season to qualify for invites to one of two Cup tournaments that they will then play in during the middle of the following season. The two Cup tournaments offer additional bonus payouts to teams who advance far enough in them.
The top four teams in a division will not only qualify for their own playoffs, they will also qualify for the Kings Cup, and next season will compete against the top four teams from all other divisions. These matches will take place simultaneously to regular season matches and will begin with Group Stage play. The top teams then move on to the Knockout stage, culminating in a championship match that takes place during the final week of the regular season.
The next four best teams in each division earn a spot in the City Cup (a Europa League equivalent), and will compete in an identical format to the Kings Cup. So as you can see, 80% of the teams qualify for a spot in a Cup tournament.
Additionally, the winners of the Kings Cup and the City Cup receive AUTOMATIC qualification to the Kings Cup the following season, regardless of their regular season finish.
One more change we are making is converting our league to a keeper format. It only makes sense to have successful owners keep some of their players from one year to the next when the Cup matches take place the season after a team qualifies.
These new additions to our league format should hopefully be another reason for owners to keep coming back year after year, while also incentivizing struggling teams at the bottom to continue to compete for at least that 8th place finish in order to fight for a shot at one of the bonus payouts in the City Cup the following year.

Game Peak City will begin with a total of 30 teams across three leagues, but it is also easily designed to expand further, allowing another 10-team expansion at any point. Therefore, we will always be looking for more participants so feel free to reach out to me if this is something you would like to become a part of too!
